Showfloors & Sampling Sites
The majority of wool offered for sale in Australia is done so using Sale by Sample. This involves a sample being drawn from each bale that is to be offered for sale. These samples are then used for appraisal and testing purposes. A fundamental factor in ensuring confidence is maintained in this system is the integrity of the sampling operations and sample display and storage procedures.
Wool that is to be offered for sale through an AWEX managed auction must have been sampled at a Sampling Site registered with AWEX, as well as both stored and displayed at a Showfloor registered with AWEX.
The Terms of Registration require that the facility observes certain standards, that it has documented procedures in place and that it undergoes annual audit to ensure that it is operating according to those procedures. If the facility is already certified to ISO 9001 or ISO 9002 and the scope of registration covers the Terms of Registration, no further audit is required. Otherwise the audit is usually undertaken by AWEX staff.
